The headland's name comes from few stories passed down by generations and further researches which may also be in relation.
The name came from a convict called Benjamin Buckler or Ben Buckler, who came to Australia since 1810. Ben was later convinced by his fellow convict James Ives that he had fall to his death due to rock instability. The point was formally called the 'Ben Buckler's Leap' for this reason.
Ben Buckler was not a convict but a bushranger which final settles in a cave located in headlands of North Bondi near Bondi Beach. The local fame's name was later used for naming the area.
Obed West (1807-1891) claims the origin of name in relation to the aboriginal name 'benbuckalong', which was pronounced as 'baal-buckalea'.
